In terms of research, HESAM Université is committed to the development of new collaborations between institutions. Supervised by the vice-president for research, its missions are as follows.
Promoting collaborative research
Research at HESAM Université is conceived of as collaborative action around 5 disciplinary fields identified by the university as meaningful to its members :
- Industry, enterprise and territories
- Digital technology and society
- Work, employment and arts & crafts
- Art, creation, design and heritage
- Risk, regulation, quality and safety
Research also has the mission of coordinating PhD studies and a shared scientific vision. It is also involved in European and international calls for proposals in order to guarantee its researchers access to advanced equipment through European and international activities and think tanks.
In accordance with its statutes, HESAM Université defines and implements PhD studies and awards PhD degrees within the framework of its two graduate schools (the Graduate School of Sciences of the Engineering Professions and the Abbé-Grégoire Graduate School). Various PhD programs are: full-time PhD and professional PhD by VAE (validation of professional experience).
Ever since its foundation, HESAM Université has continued to improve its research potential. The IDEX (National Initiative for Excellence) programme “Paris Nouveaux Mondes” has provided the framework that structures our community and coordinates its research output, making HESAM an innovative university network.
Offering real connections between education and research
In a rapidly changing world, professions are changing and careers are evolving, so education must innovate. HESAM Université research and educational strategies try to explore the key trends that will affect education, work, and management in the coming decades. To drive industrial change, the digital revolution, the transition to the circular economy and energy transformation and to manage climate and demographic change, new skills and know-how are indeed needed. In this context, education must be personalised and modular to accompany each student in the construction of his/her own skills and experience necessary for the careers of tomorrow.
The innovative character of these programs lies in their educational method: project-based learning, placing the student at the heart of a learning process for acquiring core disciplinary skills, interdisciplinary skills and specialised "trade" skills. The objective is to professionalise students through individualised support (tutoring). The self-assessment methodology is one of the strengths of the program.
Finally, in keeping with its motto, “Professionalising academics and academising professionals” HESAM Université offers real connections between education and research by building shared programmes.
